Frost Kissed Horizon, 2024

This painting is part of a series which started small as a cut paper collage: it suggested a landscape, but one thinks of a landscape as a static moment in time. The abstraction of the shapes and the texture suggested movement and velocity to me, as though it were the journey as well as the space that was being represented. As it scaled, and went from paper to a much larger work on canvas, it took on an immersive quality.

This painting is a distorted echo of the original work on paper; the lines are more rigid and graphic, the brushwork is looser and more fluid. The movement has shifted into the shapes themselves, and there’s an escaping energy, which is held together by the connecting point between the forms
